In response to an increasing number of enquiries from clients a few years ago regarding who they could talk to locally for quality financial advice, Sanderson Estate Agents established a professional relationship with The Ellis McComb Partnership, Senior Partner Practice of the highly regarded St. James’s Place Wealth Management group.
Gordon Nicoll is the Practice Partner who deals with our clients in this area. He has worked in the banking and financial services sector for nearly 40 years and has dealt with Andrew and Alison’s personal affairs for over half of that time. If there is no better recommendation than a satisfied client, then listen to what Andrew and Alison have to say “The most important thing we have learnt from our experience over the years is that we can put all our trust into Gordon. His advice and knowledge has been first class. We have confidently recommended friends, family and customers to him for his help, knowing he will only give good advice and that it is not in his nature to be at all pushy or try the hard sell.”
Whether your interest lies in pensions, investment, protection, Inheritance Tax planning, care fees planning, or any other aspect of personal finance, Gordon and his partners have the knowledge and experience (over 150 years combined) to advise you accordingly. And, for additional peace of mind, the advice they give is backed by the St, James’s Place Guarantee. All discussions take place on the basis of no charge, and no obligation to take any subsequent action.
Whilst the increased flexibility offered by the legislation changes in April 2015 were a very welcome move and have helped to make pension saving more attractive to many people, the reality is that it has also made the question of what to do with your pension a lot more confusing for many people.
This confusion, predictably, has seen the emergence of the ‘scammers’ intent on liberating your pension, not just from your pension provider but, much more importantly, from YOU. The Government is keen for anyone looking to withdraw monies from their pensions to take appropriate advice and we have read stories of people being charged fees of up to £3000 for this ‘advice’. This does not sound like particularly good value for money when you consider the relatively small size of many of these funds.
Gordon and his colleagues have chosen to take a very different approach – he will be happy to review your situation and objectives, and provide you with relevant information and guidance at NO COST. If you are thinking of taking money from your pension, but are unsure whether or not it is the right thing to do, just contact him for a chat (see below for contact details).
Care Fees Planning
The good news is – we are all living longer.
The bad news is – more of us are spending more of our later years in care, and for those who have to pay their own care fees, it is costing us more.
We are seeing more situations where elderly clients and/or their families are selling homes to help fund the cost of care, and it amazed us to learn that, amongst those who have to fund their own costs, fewer than one in ten currently receive any form of financial advice, and yet one in four of those people will run out of money whilst still in care.
Dealing with families and vulnerable individuals in these, often, difficult circumstances is an area fraught with potential dangers, and it is clear to us that any adviser we would recommend should be appropriately qualified to advise in this very specialist sector. Not only does Gordon hold the appropriate C.I.I. (Chartered Insurance Institute) qualification in Later Life Advice, but he is also a fully accredited member of SOLLA – Society of Later Life Advisers – regarded as the gold-standard for giving advice in this vital area.
Many people who do seek advice leave it until the money has nearly run out, which is too late to make a difference. In some situations the money will still run out, even when advice has been taken early and acted upon but, with careful planning from the outset the timing of this can be better anticipated. However, in many situations, the benefits of appropriate planning at the right time mean that care fees funding can be secured for life and, ideally, will still leave something for the family.
If you have any concerns over care fees funding, a chat with Gordon will prove very informative.
